This critical project forms an integral part of the airport development strategy with a main objective being the need to resolve aircraft "push-back" clashes.

The redevelopment of Pier 2 involved  the reconfiguration of aircraft stands on the southern side of the existing pier allowing an increase of 4 additional stands.   Improvements to  internal space planning and internal operations were made to meet the needs for long haul as well as short haul passenger experience.  In order to achieve this 4 new vertical circulation cores, 5 new nodes and multiple gate rooms were either constructed or reconfigured to accommodate the additional aircraft stands in conjunction with passenger movements.

AIS provided Building Control Approval for the Pier 2 redevelopment and worked with the project team to determine solutions for a number of complex challenges, these included:-

1. Maintaining usability and keeping areas operational working to tight deadlines.
2. Maintaining Security levels whilst ensuring fire safety design is compliant.
3. Assist with Fire Engineering solutions.
4. Maintaining Passenger flows and minimizing congestion.
5. Assist with property protection and business continuity objectives.
